Join Me in Prayer
Prayer is an essential weapon in the Christian’s struggle against sin and the Church’s mission to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to advance His Kingdom. I think most of us love to read about full armor of God we are called to put on in Ephesians 6 as we seek to stand in this evil day, but we often stop reading at verse 17 with the description of the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. The next command tells us to “Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:18, CSB) There are many things we need to be praying about, but please help me lift up these three needs before the Lord this month.
Our Preschool and After-School Families
We often take our preschool for granted and neglect to lift it up before the Lord. It is more than just a safe, nurturing environment. It is a ministry arm of our church. Pray every preschooler and after-schooler will be introduced to the Creator God who sent His Son, our Lord Jesus to die to reconcile them to Himself. Our teachers and staff are seeking to sow seeds of the Gospel that the Lord will grow to maturity. Pray for their siblings, parents, and grandparents. We want these children to be surrounded by Christ followers who will bless and disciple them. Pray our efforts to encourage and reach out to them will bear fruit. We have been greeting and serving coffee on Mondays and providing meals to couple of families per week. Pray they will receive this kindness as the love of the Lord Jesus.
The Emmanuel Sober Living House
We voted last month to establish a sober living house to disciple and encourage men transitioning from rehab back into independent living. Pray the Lord would provide us with a house that is close to our church and to opportunities for employment. Pray the Lord would supply us with all of the furniture and other necessary items to set up housekeeping in this house. We will be making these needs known as soon as we secure a house. Pray the Lord would prepare our church to receive, bless, and encourage these men. They need the love and ministry of our church! God has blessed us with every resource to minister and disciple these men. We are the resources. Pray we would be willing.
Elders
We have a group of men within our church designated by our deacons to prayerfully consider and plan a course for our church to establish a board of elders to shepherd, oversee, and lead our church. Pray for Stephen Nutt, Jerry Baker, Keith Barnes, Randy Hammons, John Roebuck, and myself as we meet. Pray we would only plan and discern elder leadership as it is clearly presented and outlined in the Word of God. Pray the Lord would prepare our church for this transition. Pray for unity and clear communication with our church body throughout this process.
