God, Our Creator and Ruler
The Lord God Almighty is amazing! When was the last time you stopped and pondered the immensity and majesty of God? This month in our family Bible studies, we will be meditating on God’s glory revealed in creation and providence. Our scripture readings during March will look back on creation, the Fall of man, and God’s providential rule of His fallen creation. It is hard to begin to comprehend the power of God seen in Him creating the heavens and the earth out of nothing. He needed no raw materials or any other resource outside of Himself. He did not need to employ any tools. The order and wonder of creation were according to His design. While God’s glory is revealed in creation, lately I have been most amazed by His glory seen in providence. It is easy to take His creation for granted, but His providence sometimes startles me and wakes me from my spiritual stupor. Our family Bible study defines God’s providence as His completely holy, wise, and powerful preserving and governing every creature and every action.
Romans 8:28 states, “we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” Things do not just accidently work together for the good. Our God is working and has been working in all human history that His purposes might come to pass. We see this in the History of God’s people in the Old Testament. Individually in the lives of people like Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and David. God spoke to them and gave them supernatural insight at particular moments, but was also behind the scenes preparing them through family and other life experiences that they might be properly positioned at the right time to do His will. Often the preparations were not received as blessings but trials. God is even worked through the trials and rebellion of His people to bring about His ultimate purposes. We see this on the macro-level when we look at the redemptive plan of God for humanity which included the rejection and the crucifixion of our Lord and on the micro-level when we reflect on the events of our lives which God orchestrated to prepare us for conversion.
If you are saved (born again), the Almighty Creator of all that exists is your Father. He is on your side and there is absolutely nothing you need to do His will that He cannot supply. Not only is He able to sustain and help you through every crisis and trial you encounter, but ultimately He has planned from all of eternity that you would go through this and it will serve His purpose in your life. In 2 Corinthians 1:10-11 Paul reflected on trials in the past and his hope when he stated, “He has delivered us from such a terrible death, and He will deliver us again while you join in helping us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gift that came to us through the prayers of many.” I pray we can all spend a little time this month reflecting on the wonder and glory of our Creator and Sustainer who knows, loves and has plans for us!
