What We Believe

What We Believe

Emmanuel Baptist Church believes and unapologetically teaches there is one God who created all things for His own glory.  He created man to bear His image in populating and exerting dominion over the earth.  According to the divine plan of God, our first parents disobeyed God’s command given for their protection.  They doubted the goodness of God, believed a lie and sinned against their Creator.  When Adam (the first man) sinned, humanity fell from their original condition into a fallen condition, corrupted by sin.  Every successive generation has been born under the curse of sin with a sin nature made evident by their sinful actions.  In our fallen condition, we have lost fellowship with God and have brought His anger and curse upon ourselves.  We are subject to pain and misery in this life, death, and the pains of eternal hell.  This is why the Gospel (good news) is so precious to us!

The Gospel:  God planned from all of eternity to show His goodness and grace by making a way of salvation for mankind through the coming of our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man.  He was born of a virgin, conceived of the Holy Spirit.  He was subject to all the pain and temptations of this life but was without sin.  He was rejected by the Jews and delivered up to worldly authorities to be crucified as a blasphemer.  He was crucified and died, suffering the wrath of God our sin deserves.  Romans 6:23 states, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord,” CSB.  The Lord Jesus Christ died, was buried and on the third day was resurrected that all may know sin’s debt was paid and death has been defeated.  He appeared to His disciples and ascended into heaven where He is enthroned in glory.  All who will repent of their sin and believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin will be born again (experience regeneration in the Holy Spirit), saved from God’s wrath, and reconciled to God.

The Lord Jesus Christ entrusted this Gospel to the church.  The universal church consists of all the redeemed in every generation.  A church is the local assembly of redeemed individuals who have willingly covenanted together to corporately worship the Lord , care for one another, make disciples, and be a witness to Christ in the world.  The church has been given the mission of bearing witness through Gospel proclamation, teaching Biblical doctrine, and living holy, set apart lives in the world until the Lord Jesus Christ appears at the end of time to judge the living and the dead.  After the final judgment, those redeemed in Christ will dwell eternally with the Lord in sinless communion with God and one another.
