His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. By these he has given us very great and precious promises, so that through them you may share in the divine nature, escaping the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. 2 Peter 1:3-4
We all want power. We want to have the power to control our circumstances or to fix our problems or the problems of others. If God would simply give us access to a little of His power, we could solve whatever problem we are facing in a moment. When we read the verses above from 2 Peter, we see the power of God promised to His children in the giving of everything required for life, godliness, sharing in the divine nature, and escape from this world’s corruption. This power is made available to us in the Gospel. It may not be God’s will for you or your loved one to be healed, you to get a new job, or for you to be wealthy. We do know what His will is for every born-again believer: life, godliness, and holiness. I believe we can boldly pray for these things and fully expect the Spirit to fill and empower us for progress toward those goals.
The beginning of the school year is always a time of refocus and renewal in our families and our church. We are beginning to settle back into routines that will order our days (with a few exceptions) for the next 9 months. The past several years we have set aside some time in August or early September for a time of protracted meetings. This year will be no exception. We’re looking forward to a series of revival services beginning Sunday night, August 27th through Wednesday, August 30th. Keith Manuel and Butch Revere will be coming to lead us in these special services. Bro. Keith is the director of evangelism for the Louisiana Baptist Convention and Bro. Butch is the worship leader at First Baptist Franklinton. Bro. Butch was with us in revival several years ago. These men are not able to bring revival and renewal to God’s people through the exercise of the gifts God has given them. They are simply vessels I believe God will use to encourage us as His power is poured out in the lives of believers who long for life, godliness, transformation, and victory over their evil desires. Would you pray with me toward that end? Here are a few prayer requests I would ask you lift over the coming month:
Pray the Lord would bring an awareness and conviction of sin and worldliness in our lives.
Pray for the Lord to stir us to long for His glory and will to be done in and among us.
Pray for God to give us boldness to obey Him by witnessing to our family, friends, and neighbors.
Pray for the Lord to save the lost in our midst.
Pray for an awareness of the presence and the power of God.
Pray for the Lord to burden your heart to reach out to someone you can invite to these services.
Pray for God to prepare Bro. Keith and Bro. Butch to be used mightily during this time.
I have observed what I believe to be signs of growth and spiritual health in the life of our church. God is working and moving among us. He is stirring us to love Him and one another. I pray these revival services will simply stir us to greater love and consecration as we endeavor to be a growing community of disciples, making disciples to the glory of God!
