The Law’s Power and Christ’s Victory
Our questions and answers in our Family Bible Study have recounted and explained God’s requirements for His people revealed in the Ten Commandments. Last year when we were working our way through Romans, we saw how Paul made the case that knowledge of the Law made our sins more sinful. There is great instruction for all people regarding godliness and moral righteousness in the Old Testament Law, but the Law lays bare our guilt and need for salvation. This was all part of God’s redemptive plan. Law took away all room for boasting. It revealed that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23). Paul famously stated in Galatians 3:23-24, “Before this faith came, we were confined under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith was revealed. The law, then, was our guardian until Christ, so that we could be justified by faith. During October our questions, answers, and reading will focus on our own weakness reveled by the Law and the way of escape the Lord has made for us in Christ!
I hope all who read this newsletter have received the gracious victory over death and sin through faith in Jesus Christ. Our question and answer for the week of October 15-21 are: What does God require from us to escape His anger and curse, which we deserve for our sin? God requires faith in Jesus Christ and repentance unto life, with diligence in all external means of grace Christ uses to bring us the benefits of redemption. Biblical faith in Jesus Christ is simply receiving and resting on Him alone for salvation from God’s anger and curse. Repentance unto life is a work of the Spirit in us that convicts of guilt and of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are made able to hate and turn from sin and to come to Jesus. When we have received the forgiveness and new life in Christ, the Law requirement has been fulfilled and we can look on the Law without fear of God’s wrath. What a blessing, and what hope! We can shout with the Apostle Paul, “Where, death, is your victory? Where, death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
(1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
Fall Fest and Community Canvas
We are looking forward to our Fall Fest coming up on October 15. This annual event is always well attended and a great time for our preschool families. This year we want to make it a more vital outreach event to our community. We need your help for this to be a success. We need TRUNKS/BOOTHS. Those who help in this way will set up some sort of carnival type game and give out candy/treats to children who participate. We also need volunteers to help with the jump-house, hayride, and food. We need community canvas volunteers. On Sunday, October 8 at 3:30pm a group will be gathering at the church and heading out to pass out fliers in the community inviting our neighbors to come to the Fall Fest. Last of all, we need prayer warriors. This should include every person in our church family. Pray this effort will be a safe, encouraging time. Pray the Gospel will be shared clearly and effectively on our Gospel Hayride. Pray this event will make an impact in our community to the glory of Christ.
